Head of Compliance & Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
Gibraltar

Join Acquarius as a senior leader responsible for compliance, AML and regulatory oversight. This is a hands-on role combining strategic ownership, statutory MLRO responsibility, and day-to-day delivery, with the opportunity to shape and scale the compliance function as the business grows.

About Us

Acquarius is a licensed and regulated Trust and Corporate Service Provider based in Gibraltar. We support private clients, families, and corporate structures across multiple jurisdictions, with a strong emphasis on quality, governance, and long-term relationships.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Compliance & Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) to take ownership of our compliance and AML framework.

This is a senior, hands-on position combining:

  • Strategic oversight of the compliance framework
  • Statutory responsibility as MLRO
  • Direct involvement in day-to-day compliance delivery

Unlike traditional roles, this position remains close to the detail, with responsibility for both execution and decision-making, while also shaping how the function evolves as the business grows.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

You will play a central role in ensuring that compliance is embedded across the business. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as MLRO, including assessing and reporting suspicious activity
  • Leading and delivering compliance and AML processes, including onboarding, reviews, and monitoring
  • Maintaining and enhancing policies, procedures, and controls
  • Providing clear reporting and insight to senior management and the Board
  • Acting as a key point of contact with regulators and authorities
  • Supporting the ongoing development and scaling of the compliance function

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines technical expertise with a practical, hands-on mindset, including:

  • Significant experience in compliance and AML within a regulated financial services environment
  • Experience as MLRO or Deputy MLRO
  • Strong understanding of regulatory expectations and AML frameworks
  • A willingness to work closely with operational detail, not just oversight
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and communicate clearly at senior level
  • A proactive approach to improving processes and building capability over time

A recognised compliance or AML qualification (e.g. ICA, STEP, or equivalent) is a necessity.

Why Join Acquarius

  • A senior, business-critical role with direct impact on strategy and operations
  • The opportunity to shape and build a compliance function
  • Close interaction with senior leadership and the Board
  • A professional, collaborative environment focused on quality and long-term relationships

Closing Note

This role is ideal for someone who values substance over hierarchy — equally comfortable setting direction, exercising independent judgement, and delivering robust, regulator-defensible compliance in practice.
